Information about Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs lived many millions of years ago, during a time known as the Mesozoic Era. This era started around 245 million years ago and ended around 65 million years ago. Scientists divide the Mesozoic Era into three periods – the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods.

Dinosaurs came in many different shapes and sizes. Some were as small as chickens while others were as long as basketball courts! They had scales or skins that were usually green, brown or gray. Many dinosaurs could run very fast on their two strong hind legs, while others walked on all fours. Some dinosaurs were meat-eaters that hunted other animals, and others only ate plants.

The largest dinosaur was the long-necked sauropod like Brachiosaurus which could reach over 100 feet long. Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the biggest meat-eating dinosaurs with massive jaws and teeth. Pterosaurs like Pteranodon were not dinosaurs but flew through the skies with leathery wings like big bats.

Scientists have found fossils of dinosaurs all over the world. By studying these fossils, they have learned a lot about what dinosaurs looked like and how they lived millions of years ago. Dinosaurs once ruled Earth but then suddenly went extinct, making way for mammals like humans to become dominant.
